microVENT®
Responder is a controlled flow oxygen powered resuscitation system
designed for easy use in line with the Resuscitation Guidelines
2005.
The Resuscitation
Guidelines 2000 highlighted the advantages of resuscitating with
smaller volumes and lower flow rates. Using 100% oxygen enables
lower volumes while maintaining adequate oxygenation and thereby
lessening the risk of gastric insufflation, vomiting and subsequent
aspiration of vomit into the lungs. The Resuscitation Guidelines
recommend volumes up to 600ml delivered over 1 second.
The new Guidelines 2005 also recommend that CPR should be performed
at a 30 compression to 2 ventilation ratio.
microVENT® Responder has the following easy to use features
and controls:
1) Flow control select with a choice of 40 lpm and 20 lpm. Setting
the flow control to 40 litres per minute enables microVENT®
Responder to deliver the correct volumes of 600ml delivered in the
correct time of 1 seconds. The lower flow rate enables the resuscitator
to be used with children.
2) Squeezing the trigger initiates flow of 100% oxygen from the
resuscitator. microVENT® Responder is designed to enable the
user to hold the resuscitation mask and control the airway with
a two handed grip, operating the trigger with one finger. An
additional safety feature is that there is no oxygen wastage while
the resuscitator is not used for patient ventilation, so all the
oxygen is used for resuscitation helping the supply last longer..
3) The microVENT® Responder features a pressure relief valve
that prevents dangerous airway pressures being achieved. An audible
warning sounds when the relief valve is operating.
4) The use of the two handed grip enables the user to control the
airway and give a good seal to the face mask. This grip is considered
easier to perform than the one handed grip needed when operating
a bag-valve-mask.
5) microVENT® Responder has standard resuscitation fittings
enabling its use with standard resuscitation facemasks and other
resuscitation devices.
6) microVENT® Responder has a two metre supply hose manufactured
specially from flexible plastics to enable the easy use of the resuscitator.
7) Because the microVENT® Responder only uses oxygen as it is
supplied to the patient, there is a huge saving over the consumption
of a bag-valve-mask resuscitator (with a constant flow of 15 lpm
to the reservoir). This means the portable oxygen cylinder lasts
longer.
microVENT® Responder is supplied on its own or as the central
component of a resuscitation
kit.
