The latest Resuscitation Guidelines 2000 have highlighted the advantages of resuscitating with lower volumes and flow rates. These help to limit airway pressures reducing the chances of gastric insuflation, vomiting and subsequent aspiration and pneumonia. With 100% oxygen resuscitation we help ensure oxygenation at these smaller tidal volumes.

microVENT® European is an automatic time cycled resuscitator calibrated so the maximum Adult setting is 600ml tidal volume, in line with the Resuscitation Guidelines 2000 for the unprotected airway and 100% oxygen. Users are therefore prevented from selecting larger tidal volumes that increase risk of aspiration to the patient / casualty. The volumes are infinitely adjustable from 600ml at 12 breaths per minute to a lower setting of 200ml at 25 breaths per minute. MicroVenT® can also be manually operated enabling the user to time ventilations as required, such as when used in CPR.

microVENT® Classic is an automatic time cycled resuscitator calibrated so the maximum setting is 1200ml at 12 breaths per minute and this volume is infinitely adjustable down to 300ml at 24 breaths per minute at the child setting. This is suitable to users who have the skills to protect the airway (such as intubation) and may require larger ventilation volumes for clinical reasons. MicroVenT® can also be manually operated enabling the user to time ventilations as required, such as when used in CPR.

microVENT® Responder is a manually operated controlled flow resuscitation device with options of 40 litre per minute (lpm) and 20 lpm. When used with the unprotected airway (normal use with a face mask) setting the flow control to 20 litres per minute enables MicroVenT® Responder to deliver the correct volumes of 600ml in the correct time of 1.5 to 2 seconds. Squeezing the trigger initiates flow of 100% oxygen from the resuscitator. MicroVenT® Responder is designed to enable the user to hold the resuscitation mask and control the airway with a two handed grip, operating the trigger with one finger. Responder has no automatic feature.

All microVENT® resuscitators feature a pressure relief valve that prevents dangerous airway pressures being achieved. An audible warning sounds when the relief valve is operating. The use of the two handed grip enables the user to control the airway and give a good seal to the face mask. This grip is considered easier to perform than the one handed grip needed when operating a bag-valve-mask.

Consider what your requirements are.

  • Adults and Children, or if the resuscitator is for an industrial place of work Adults only?
  • Is the kit to respond to a specific risk at work such as confined space rescue?
  • Will the resuscitator only be used with a face mask or are you trained to intubate or use laryngeal mask?

Some common kit choices are as follows:

8) Oxygen supply hose 2m length. Reinforced to resist kinking yet supple to allow easy positioning. 7) Clear patient valve body enables easy view to check inside for contamination. 360 swivel connector helps prevent accidental disconnects and makes positioning the resuscitator to the patient easier. 15/22 mm connector allows attachment of standard resuscitation facemasks, ET tubes etc. 6) Calibration labelling shows settings for the slider controlling automatic time cycled resuscitation. 5) Manual trigger for oxygen powered manually controlled resuscitation. Easily accessible while still holding the resuscitation mask with a two handed grip. 4) Pressure relief valve and audible warning (overventilation / obstruction). 3) Slider control to adjust tidal volume and frequency. Positioned to be immediately visible while the microvent® is in use. 2) Selector switch, choose between automatic time cycled resuscitation or oxygen powered manually controlled resuscitation. 1) Powerful reinforced engineering plastic, injection moulded to form the tough microvent® body, lid and pressure relief cap.
