Synchronise
ventilation to patient effort.
|
 |
The microvent® Advanced Models
are fitted with a patient assist feature. This is designed so that if
a patient "connected" to a microvent® (in its automatic mode) makes
a spontaneous breathing effort, the microvent® will detect this and
assist their breathing by applying the prescribed inspiratory volume
synchronised to their inspiratory effort. The diagram above illustrates
this function. The blue waveform represents airway pressure, with internal
lung pressure represented by the red line. The negative pressure generated
spontaneously by the patient has resulted in a synchronised inspiratory
cycle. The lower waveform represents flow. The faded waveform represents
the non-synchronised inspiration that would have occurred. The assist
ensures that even a patient with a shallow breathing effort will receive
the required ventilation in a comfortable manner. This contrasts with
a demand valve system that may only supply the volume the patient demands,
microvent® is designed to supply the volume your patient requires.
