There may be occasions when
the timing of the resuscitator is not occurring as required. Hyperventilation
before patient intubation may be one such occasion. During external
cardiac compressions you may wish to trigger the resuscitator by hand
to achieve the optimal 30 compressions :2 ventilations recommended for
CPR. Traditionally this would have required the use of an additional
BVM resuscitator. Not with microvent®. The microvent® allows you to
take control. All models with the manual trigger have a switch at the
rear of the microvent® (near the oxygen hose inlet) that can be rotated
to select manual. When this is selected the microvent® can be triggered
by squeezing the red control handle, and patient inspiration occurs.
As in other resuscitation methods, the patient must be observed, and
the trigger released when adequate chest rise is noted. Expiration takes
place when the trigger is not being squeezed.
The microvent® manual mode
gives you the flexibility of the BVM without the effort but with a controlled
flow rate. There is the potential to use a two handed face mask grip
(as illustrated above) for a better gas seal. Because the only oxygen
consumed is when ventilating the patient - microvent helps portable
oxygen supplies last longer and reduces the fire risk.
As soon as required you can
select the automatic mode and microvent® will recommence the automatic
ventilation of your patient.
The microvent® puts control
in your hands.
